DHS resumes asylum decisions. And, Iran's strike injures over 12 U.S. personnel
Iran Injures 12 U.S. Personnel in Strike. Wars Produce Casualties.
What Happened
Iran conducted a strike that injured over 12 U.S. military personnel. Separately, the Department of Homeland Security resumed processing asylum decisions after what appears to have been a pause or suspension.
Historical Context
U.S. personnel have faced attacks in Middle East deployments consistently since 2003. In Iraq and Syria alone, there have been over 180 attacks on U.S. forces since October 2023. The asylum processing system regularly faces backlogs and administrative changes - processing was paused and resumed multiple times during 2020-2024 transitions.
What's In Your Control
Whether you follow minute-by-minute military updates (exhausting and changes nothing). Whether you donate to refugee assistance organizations if asylum policy concerns you.
Does This Require Action?
Unless you have family in the military or work in immigration law: awareness only. This represents ongoing regional tensions, not a sudden escalation requiring civilian response.
