Asia boosts coal use as Iran war squeezes global LNG supplies

Energy Crisis Shifts Asia to Coal. Wars Disrupt Supply Chains. This Too Shall Pass.

Asian countries are increasing coal consumption as liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies become constrained due to conflicts involving Iran affecting global energy markets. This represents a shift back to older energy sources when preferred alternatives become unavailable.

Energy crises historically drive temporary fuel switching: 1973 oil embargo led to coal revival in US and Europe. 2000s Russian gas disputes forced Europe toward alternatives. 2011 Fukushima pushed Japan from nuclear back to fossil fuels. These shifts are typically temporary - markets adapt, new suppliers emerge, alternatives develop. Coal use in Asia peaked around 2013-2014 before declining due to pollution concerns and cheaper alternatives.

Whether you panic about energy prices (don't). Whether you accelerate any personal energy efficiency improvements. Whether you check your heating bills obsessively (also don't). Long-term investment decisions if you make them.

Unless you're in Asian energy procurement or making major investment decisions: awareness only. Energy markets are volatile by nature and adapt over time. This affects policy makers and energy companies more than individual consumers.
