In Xi Jinping’s Purge of the Military, a Search for Absolute Loyalty

Xi Purges Military Leaders. Autocrats Always Do This.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has removed multiple high-ranking military officials from their positions in what appears to be a systematic effort to install loyalists in key defense roles. The purge includes generals and defense officials across different branches of China's military structure.

Military purges by authoritarian leaders follow predictable patterns throughout history: Stalin purged Soviet officers (1937-1938), Mao purged Chinese generals (1960s-70s), Saddam purged Iraqi commanders (1980s-90s). Autocrats routinely consolidate military control - this is standard authoritarian maintenance, not necessarily preparation for war. Xi has conducted similar purges in the Communist Party (2012-present) and state enterprises. In authoritarian systems, loyalty trumps competence in leadership selection.

Whether you follow Chinese military developments closely (unless you're a defense analyst, probably unnecessary). Your investment decisions if you hold Chinese stocks or bonds. Understanding that this reflects internal Chinese power dynamics, not necessarily external military intentions.

Awareness only for most readers. This affects China watchers, defense analysts, and investors in Chinese markets. Permission granted to not have strong opinions about internal Chinese politics you cannot influence.
