Airstrikes may have destroyed Iran's last F-14s, ending a long, strange saga

Iran's Last F-14s Likely Destroyed. 50-Year-Old Planes Finally Retired by War.

Recent airstrikes appear to have destroyed Iran's remaining F-14 Tomcat fighter jets, potentially ending the country's use of these American-made aircraft that it acquired in the 1970s before the 1979 revolution strained U.S.-Iran relations.

Iran received 79 F-14 Tomcats from the U.S. between 1976-1978 under the Shah. After 1979, these became isolated relics - spare parts embargoed, pilots trained on 1970s systems. Most air forces retire fighters after 30-40 years; these lasted 45+. Similar orphaned weapons: Soviet gear in Cuba (1960s tanks still running), French Mirages in various African nations decades past prime. Military equipment outlasting the relationships that created it is historically common.

Nothing. This is military hardware management between nations. Unless you're an aviation historian, defense analyst, or Iranian pilot, this affects your life in no measurable way.
