Iran war widens, threatening to engulf Lebanon

Iran-Israel Conflict Spreads to Lebanon. Regional Wars Follow Ancient Patterns.

The ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel has expanded to include Lebanon, with cross-border strikes and military escalation threatening to create a broader regional war. Israeli forces and Hezbollah (Iran's proxy in Lebanon) have engaged in significant exchanges of fire.

Regional Middle East conflicts have repeatedly expanded beyond initial participants: 1967 Six-Day War (Israel vs. Egypt, Syria, Jordan), 1973 Yom Kippur War (similar expansion), 1982 Israel-Lebanon War, 2006 Israel-Hezbollah conflict. Iran has used proxy forces in Lebanon (Hezbollah), Gaza (Hamas), Yemen (Houthis), and Syria since the 1979 revolution. Most Middle East escalations follow a pattern: initial strikes, proxy activation, international intervention attempts, eventual de-escalation after weeks or months.
